A Look Back at 2010

I think we can all agree that 2010 was an interesting year. The economy improved some, but certainly not as much as was projected. There were struggles and successes alike.  Pure Water Technology, Inc. had some challenges but overall can say it was a very strong year.

We brought in some investors which allowed us more financial flexibility.  This opened up opportunities to place units in companies that traditional finance companies wouldn’t approve.  We understand that sometimes companies don’t quite fit all of the required criteria but that doesn’t necessarily mean they are not a good customer.

More local reports of contaminated tap water

On December 20, 2010, Fox News LA reported that in a nationwide survey of tap water samples from 35 metropolitan areas, Environmental Working Group found that Riverside CA ranked No. 3 in hexavalent chromium content — or chromium-6. Why does that contaminant sound familiar to you? Perhaps you’ve seen the movie “Erin Brockovich” where this same substance made headlines.

Just a few days prior, news broke of water contamination in Indio CA. There, the culprit is perchlorate which is a chemical used in rocket propellants, fireworks, matches and more.  120 homes were told not to use their tap water for anything other than showers and washing.  They can’t drink the water, cook with it, make baby formula with it or give it to their pets.

Bisphenol A Declared Toxic in Canada

Bisphenol-A, or BPA, is a controversial chemical that seems to find its way into the news on a regular basis.  It’s used in many products in many industries but has had a lot of attention for its use in plastic bottles.  Environmentalists and industry groups take opposing views on the data which seems to indicate that the chemical can be harmful even in very low doses.

According to Time Magazine (Oct. 14, 2010) Canada has declared BPA a toxic substance, both for the environment and for our health.  Other governments have not taken this strong stance, and the United States FDA states that its regulatory framework limits its ability to regulate BPA.  See Dr. Mercola’s article for more information.
